Past: Lincoln Schatz Feb. 8th - Mar. 15, 2008

Lincoln Schatz’s second solo exhibition at Quint Contemporary Art will continue in the tradition of his previous generative new media works, but with an extraordinary interactive component. His new work for the exhibition, titled CUBE, consists of a translucent Plexiglas room built within the gallery and embedded with 24 video cameras to create densely layered video portraits from one hour sittings with invited guests and patrons. There will be a public reception on February 8th from 6 to 8 pm. The artist will be in attendance.

Building Houses/Hiding Under Rocks 2007 altered books 96″ x 96″ x 96″Aaron T Stephan has spent the last year scouring library depositories to collect over 15,000 discarded books from across New England. The work explores ideas ranging from contemporary philosophical issues to the basic need for shelter. Building Houses/Hiding Under Rocks challenges notions of self, loss, and understanding.

His works have been described as elegant observations of the complex layering of everyday life. Johnson’s sculpture tends to be wry, often biting observations of life. The sculptures play with both the notions of the everyday object and it’s unstable nature. Johnson is simultaneously gestural and restrained, integrating both painting and sculpture.
