Quint Projects is pleased to announce the opening of Séance, a multi-media installation by artist Peter Halasz. Consisting of paintings, sound and video; Halasz inaugurates our new small Gallery Ain Rose Canyon with an opening reception taking place on Saturday, May 21 from 10am to 1pm. The artist will be in attendance and it is open to the public.
Peter Halasz, a La Jolla native, uses familiar beach landscapes of his hometown to ruminate on the dark underbelly of surf culture from his youth. In the videos, the slow motion of the waves is compounded with dramatic effect by the music. The title, Séance, alludes to the spiritual and mysterious aspect of the work. The new five by seven inch paintings are rough and immediate, where the artist’s hand is explicitly on full display to reveal a frenetic sea. Halasz says: “The paintings always return to my lost friends and that radiant darkness... where perhaps they still dwell.”
Recent exhibitions by Halasz include solo presentations in La Jolla, Los Angeles and New York; and the group exhibition GRAM Selects, Grand Rapids Museum of Art. His work has been reviewed in publications such as Art Papers, San Diego Union-Tribune, Art Scene and Riviera Magazine. Halasz lives and works in San Diego.
