Overview

Quint Projects is pleased to announce a collaborative installation by San Diego artists Jean Lowe and Kim MacConnel. The installation will include wall paintings appropriated from Old Master and Impressionist artworks and a “museum” café serving cake and coffee.

Jean Lowe and Kim MacConnel have collaborated on past projects including Zoo Story at the UCSD Art Gallery (1999) and Bull Story at MCASD (1993)which featured paintings and sculptures. Both painters, Lowe and MacConnel will work in concert on the environment which has been inspired by the European painting galleries at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The send up of the café furniture will be juxtaposed by the classical tropes in the loosely painted compositions.

Both Lowe and MacConnel have their MFA from UCSD. Lowe was a lecturer until 2008 and MacConnel a professor until 2009. Lowe’s artwork has been exhibited in solo museum presentations at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City; the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, San Diego; and The Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati. MacConnel has been included in five Whitney Museum of American Art Biennials. A retrospective of MacConnel’s work titled Collection Applied Design at the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego was held in 2010. Lowe and MacConnel live and work in Encinitas, CA.
