Overview

Quint Contemporary Art is pleased to announce a group exhibition featuring works on paper by José Bedia, Anish Kapoor and Richard Serra.

Painter José Bedia’s interest in Afro-Cuban religions and Native American culture fits perfectly with the physical characteristics of his drawings. The folkloric imagery that he uses complements his delicately rendered designs on handmade paper. Bedia has been featured in a show at the

Museum of Modern Art, New York and has participated in the Bienal de Havana, Cuba and the Bienal de Sao Paulo, Brazil. His work is in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego.

Anish Kapoor has achieved critical acclaim for his large sculptures in reflective metal and stone. His prints and drawings often share this concern for materials, particularly pigment. For Kapoor, pigment has a special resonance for its absorptive properties, but it is also significant for its prevalence and cultural uses in his native India. Kapoor has exhibited widely and his awards include a Turner Prize in 1991 and the “Premio Duemila” at the 1992 Venice Biennale.

Sculptor Richard Serra creates works on paper that achieve a profound sense of gravity and presence. All of the weight of his enormous steel sculptures is miraculously translated into works like Rosa Parks, a screenprint slathered with paintstick. Serra has been given retrospectives at the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid. He has also been featured in solo exhibitions at The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Spain; Dia Center for the Arts, New York and The Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles.
