Quint Gallery is pleased to collaborate with Mashonda Tifrere of Art Genesis on the summer group exhibition x The show features six artists: Taylor Chapin, Megan Gabrielle, Sasha Koozel Reibstein, Victor Ubah, Elizabeth Waggett, and  Nathan Wong. There will be an Opening Reception on Saturday, July 26 from 6:00-8:00PM at Quint Gallery’s 7655 Girard Avenue space.

Conceived by Tifrere as an exploration of dimensionality, the exhibition weaves together a combination of narrative and abstract paintings and ceramic sculpture that can be seen as expressive portals to intangible realms and metaphysical landscapes. Based in Lagos, Nigeria, Victor Ubah reflects upon social infrastructure and identity through poetic hybrid portraits, marrying a naturalist gaze with cubist geometry. San Diego-based painter Taylor Chapin creates mysterious scenes from a simulated reality, with her portrait sitters each fully concealed by checked and striped fabrics against  hallucinatory backdrops. Living between New York City and Sacramento, California, Megan Gabrielle is a multi-disciplinary artist interested in Afro-Surrealism and escapism, centering black and brown female figures having pleasurable, peaceful and contemplative moments against dreamlike landscapes. Sasha Koozel Reibstein’s (San Diego, CA) ceramic sculptures are rooted in transformation and dimensions of the sublime, in part physical manifestations of that which is unknown in the cosmos, like black holes, magnetic pulls, and portals. Nathan Wong (Sonoma, CA) makes paintings incorporating geometric patterns and imagery inspired by the scalability of paper folds and surreal architectural spaces. Born in Manchester, UK and based in Texas, Elizabeth Waggett’s practice integrates precious metals, found textiles, and figuration into layered compositions that reflect on how value is formed through fragility, pressure, and transformation.

Quint Gallery was founded by Mark Quint in San Diego in 1981. In the 44 years since, Quint Gallery has produced countless exhibitions, programs, and satellite projects across nearly twenty locations throughout the city. In each iteration, Quint Gallery has strived to bring a rich sampling of contemporary art to San Diego from some of the best artists of our time, as well as champion artists of the Southern California-Baja region, operating on an artist-first model and asserting the value of risk-taking, adventurous work in all they do.

In 2020, the Gallery debuted a new programming model under the name “ONE.” ONE is a gallery focused on exhibiting a single work at a time. Since 2021, Quint Gallery has operated from two spaces in La Jolla in addition to ONE at Bread & Salt, an experimental art center housed in a 100-year old bread factory in Logan Heights.
